Home-based Puppy Advice & Training
Get off to a good start with your puppy! I can help with providing the right set-up before the puppy arrives, to giving advice on coping with those first few days and weeks. I cover how to get the all-important socialisation period right, along with housetraining, nutrition, sleeping arrangements, appropriate puppy play, and teaching your puppy how to settle. Further sessions on basic training and learning key “life-skills” are also available.
It’s impossible to stress enough that time invested now will pay enormous dividends. Your puppy will be a member of your family for many years to come and it’s worth setting them up in the right way to be happy and contented members of your family.
Adult Dog Training Sessions
Training sessions are available not just for puppies but adult dogs too. Sometimes dogs may have missed out on key training skills or just needs a refresher course!
Or you may have adopted an adult dog that simply doesn’t know the rules. I have many years of experience of working with dogs that have come from a wide variety of backgrounds, including working with the behaviour team at Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary for the past four years. Rescue dogs have sometimes had a difficult start in life and may need special attention and handling.
Sometimes the problem goes deeper than just a training issue. Separation issues, reactivity, aggression, resource guarding, fear of the vets – these are just some of the things that require a more in-depth approach, to find where the problem stems from and how it is being reinforced. I am a qualified and accredited animal behaviourist that will bring the necessary experience and knowledge to help resolve the situation safely. All behaviour consultations are followed up with a written report, and backed up by email and telephone support for 3 months.
I will also work closely with your vet, as it’s important to rule out any underlying physical problems before starting a behaviour modification programme. For this reason I will ask your vet to fill in a referral form before coming to visit you.
Cats can be particularly sensitive to any changes or new additions to the family.
Obsessive licking or grooming, house soiling or spraying are common problems, often associated with stress.
I specialise in helping you understand your cat’s needs and what can be done to help them feel happier and more confident. This is often enough to solve any behaviour problems, though sometimes a more in-depth approach is required.
